EVERY GIRL, EVERYWHERE, PERIOD – WOW sewing morning on Monday 1 May. Thank you to everyone who supported this sewing bee workshop. The place was buzzing as hundreds more sanitary kits were made, adding to the nearly 8,000 sanitary pads that were handed over to Janelle from the Ryde Chapter. Thank you to Reddam House students. What a wonderful productive morning.

HER NAME IN LIGHTS: Jewish women in the movies

We listened to movie maven Don Perlgut talk about all the Jewish women who’ve lit up movie screens, heard the fabulous Aaron Robuck belt out some Hollywood tunes and indulged in a delicious supper made by Zina.  Some dressed in gold, silver, or a movie-themed costume.

Thank you for joining us to commemorate International Menstrual Hygiene Day. We spent the afternoon assembling sanitary kits for girls and women who are suffering from menstrual poverty.

We were excited to have a representative from Share the Dignity who came to speak to us about the wonderful work they do for those in need in Australia.

Shalom’s Sydney Jewish Writers Festival (SJWF) was thrilled to invite you to an evening celebrating Jewish women in the arts for International Women’s Day 2023 in partnership with the National Council of Jewish Women Australia NSW Division (NCJWA NSW).This event was part of our Centenary Program. Our remarkable panel comprised women who have worn many hats in their creative careers and continue to explore and expand their roles. From poetry to screen writing, dance to song, memoir to film, these women are testament to the ever-changing stage and page.

22 February 2023, the NCJWA NSW Cuddle Bundles program held their Centenary event “Making A Difference”. Quote from a volunteer who supports the program “Amazing evening ….. wonderful showcase all round, thank you!!”

12 February 2023, NCJWA NSW worked with Woollahra Council’s Bushcare Team to plant a Tiny Forest for Tu Bishvat, supported by Treerites & JewSi

NCJWA recently held an event to mark the anniversary of the United Nations Resolution 181 – the Partition Plan that divided Palestine into two states, one Arab and one Jewish. The event jointly hosted with Zionist Council NSW and Ha’Moadon Ha’Israel, celebrated the unique relationship between Israel and Australia.

December 4, 2022 – To commemorate Kindertransport Day (December 1st), Janet Merkur, Immediate Past Co-President, Co-Vice President National NCJWA, tenured educator, author and our executive board member gave us a talk on The Kindertransport: Rescue of 10,000 children. Volunteers listened to Janet while sewing, cutting material and assembling kits for young women who are suffering from menstrual poverty.

NCJWA NSW’s 99th AGM was held on 21 November 2022. Thank you for your support.

In partnership with JewishArts, the Sydney Jewish Museum, Yallah! Mizrahi and Sephardi Young Adults Sydney and Sephardi Mizrahi Voices Australia, National Council of Jewish Women Australia NSW Division was proud to present “ONE OF A KIND – a musical theatre presentation in one act.

We listened to speakers from Plan International; an organisation that  advances children’s rights and equality for girls. At the same time we bundled, sewed, snipped and, as the sun went down, nearly 2000 material pads were made.

25 July 2022 – Infant First Aid workshop for Mum for Mum volunteers at Council House by Community Health Support. Our sincere thanks.
Today, 24 July 2022, we finally got together again at NCJWA NSW Council House to pack 1,000 Birthing Kits. These kits help to make a difference to the mortality rate of mothers and babies in developing countries.  The event was supported by the Pinshaw Family Foundation.
A Days for Girls Workshop was held July 14, with wonderful volunteers cutting, sewing and stitching absorbent material pads to add to the thousands of washable pads for girls and women previously made by NCJWA NSW volunteers to address period poverty. Our sincere thanks to everyone involved with this project.
 Rosemary’s Way 3 July 2022 ~ 180 Mum for Mum volunteers and guests watched the inspiring film Rosemary’s Way in support of the Mum for Mum event marking an enormous year of impact and growth of the Mum for Mum program. Rosemary Kariuki is inspirational as are our wonderful volunteers. Thank you.

“Is ovarian Cancer really ovarian and why do we care?”. The Jewish Folk Centre Ha’Moadon Ha’Israeli together with NCJWA NSW and Australian Friends of Rambam welcomed Dr Ruth Perets from the Rambam Hospital in Haifa Israel who spoke about ovarian cancer.
An end of year MUM FOR MUM NCJWA volunteer luncheon was held at Sue’s home to celebrate and honour our amazing MUM’s and our inspirational Executive Director Nadene. We laughed and shashayed to the beat of The Drum Cafe.

MUM FOR MUM NCJWA hosted a breakfast for professionals as well as MUM FOR MUM volunteers on Thursday morning. We were exceptionally privileged to have JOANNE KALOWSKI as our speaker. The topic was “Working with parents of diverse cultures”. Joanne’s expertise is in mediation, facilitation and judicial education, dispute resolution, cross-cultural communication and organisational development.

Friendship Circle Education Committee & NCJWA NSW co-hosted “The Disorganised Child” with keynote speaker internationally acclaimed consultant in child, adolescent and family psychiatry, Professor Samuel Stein. 17 June 2019 ~ Jana Gottshall Memorial Library event ~ Gael Hammer facilitated conversation with internationally renowned theatre producer and director Moira Blumenthal and co-producer Lyndi Adler. They spoke about their experiences working on smaller independent productions and Lyndi shared her experiences working in large musical theatre.

Sunday evening 2 June, NCJWA NSW were privileged Emmy award winning Gayle Kirschenbaum took more than 100 people at NCJWA NSW along on a brave mother-daughter journey in her documentary film “Look At Us Now, Mother”, in an effort to understand emotional abuse and whether it can ultimately be forgiven. A Q & A with Gayle followed the screening.

Birthing Kit Packing Days – We were very pleased to have packed 1200 Birthing Kits that will be sent to women in developing countries where access to clean birthing conditions are limited. Our huge thanks go to all the wonderful volunteers who helped pack on Sunday 24 June 2018 and to the exceptional Moriah College students who helped pack 600 kits on Sunday afternoon 8 June 2018. NCJWA NSW’s first event for 2018 ~ Morning tea and film, the award winning documentary “The Sturgeon Queens”, hosted by the Progressive Group. “Great movie” was heard many times as the audience clapped loudly after the showing.
