Domestic Violence – Can We Make A Difference?
PANEL OF EXPERTS WILL DISCUSS DOMESTIC ABUSE AND WHAT OUR COMMUNITY CAN DO TO EFFECT CHANGE
Over the past year alone, Mum for Mum’s 160 volunteers supported over 250 new mothers experiencing difficulties whilst transitioning to parenting. The number of new parents seeking our service continues to grow rapidly, as does our volunteer base. In their critical support role, Mum for Mum volunteers too often witness the devastation caused by domestic and family violence. As an organisation we continue to train our volunteers to cope with these situations. We have seen that it is possible to make a meaningful difference when knowledge, strong leadership and resources are brought together. As a community we have the capacity to move from passive bystanders to collaborative changemakers.
Mum for Mum is honoured to facilitate this panel together with Jewish community agencies, who will share the supports they offer, in the collective effort to make a difference.
Panel members:
- Delia Donovan, CEO, Domestic Violence NSW and former CEO of White Ribbon Australia.
- Professor Catharine Lumby, author and journalist, and Head of Media at the University of Sydney. Former adviser on gender issues to the NRL. About to publish her book on the Family Court.
- Gary Suntup, clinical psychologist, who will explore the gender conversation from a clinical perspective.
- Vic Alhadeff, CEO of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, former editor of the Australian Jewish News and former Chair of Multicultural NSW. Vic is an expert on leadership and how not to be a bystander.
