NCJWA NSW GeneCircle A support group for Jewish women affected by BRCA
The National Council of Jewish Women of Australia NSW is inviting Jewish women who are affected by a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation to join a BRCA support group. The meetings will be facilitated by Dr Mandy Goldman Strous, a retired oncologist and president of Cancer Counselling Professionals, and is supported by Isabelle Shapiro OAM, board member of NCJWA NSW, and Dr Lesley Andrews, head of Prince of Wales Hospital Hereditary Cancer Clinic.
The inaugural meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th March 7- 8.30pm at NCJWA Council House, Queen St Woollahra.
We plan to meet every 2 months. At this stage we have not set a program for the year, but we are keen to hear from women if they would prefer the sessions to be spontaneous discussions, discussions around a set theme, or to include a guest speaker.
Our aims are to
• Provide a supportive environment for women who have been found to carry a mutation
• Facilitate the sharing of experiences to help women as they face new challenges related to their BRCA status.
• Respond to the group’s needs for current BRCA related information
We encourage women who have had genetic testing some time ago to attend, as they can provide valued support for those who have been tested more recently.
All discussions at the meetings will remain confidential, and participants will be asked to respect the privacy of others. This invitation is being sent through your hereditary cancer service on behalf of NCJWA to maintain your privacy.
RSVP by Thurs 28 February 2019.
If you would like further information, please email either Dr Lesley Andrews firstname.lastname@example.org or Dr Mandy Goldman Strous email@example.com.
